Event 2013

Event 2013

The largest in Denmark became the largest in Europe

United Against Food Waste was held for the first time at the City Hall Square in Copenhagen in October 2013 and became the largest event against food waste in Denmark and Europe.

The event was organized under the International EU-network FUSIONS. The event fed approximately 6,000 people with good surplus food and there were speeches from the former Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of Denmark, Mrs. Karen Hækkerup, the CEO of The Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Mr. Søren Gade, The Secretary-General of The Nordic Council of Ministers, Mr. Dagfinn Høybråten, the international food waste expert and author Dr. Silvia Gaiani and the topchef Mr. Bo Jacobsen.

Additionally, there were participation from Coop, REMA 1000, The Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Unilever Food Solutions, etc. and music was provided by DJ Master Fatman. It was Europe's first event where the entire food value chain, from farm to table, was represented - from the industry, retailers, politicians, consumers to NGOs. It was immediately planned to repeat the event in 2014 - both in Denmark and internationally.

Marta Zarina-Gelze from Latvia was the Winner of the UNRIC and Think.Eat.Save Nordic-Baltic Ad Competition on food waste. She won for her poster ""The last wish was to be eaten". See it here.
